2010 – fashion trends – 2011: GAP Winter Lookbook

The key word for GAP’s winter style is “layering”. That makes a lot of sense, especially in the cold season – layering clothes keeps us warm, while looking chic and interesting at the same time.

There are several trends that GAP suggests. First of all, the ladylike blouses, made of silk, with feminine ruffle details and asymmetries. These come in soft colors and are the base of a layered outfit. Then we have the chunky knitwear, mostly sweaters and cardigans – the surprise here are the knit leggings, in black and charcoal, which seem to successfully replace pants. GAP is very fond of tweed textures, for both jackets and skirts; and while most of the tones are neutral, a touch of red pops out from time to time.

Jeans are always in style and GAP knows it. They offer a variety of cuts: legging style, skinny, boot cut, boy fit or curvy; there are many colors to choose from: black, gray, acid wash, dark and light blue.

The winter catalogue consists of cool, edgy looks. This effect comes from the surprising combos, for example: a tweed motor jacket with a silk ruffled top, skinny jeans, heels and fingerless gloves – this is not an outfit that you see everyday. Other interesting combos are: a leather skirt with a soft, belted sweater, a trim trapper with knit leggings and lace-up boots, or a simple top with acid wash jeans and a pom-pom hat.

Most handbags are totes, made of suede, denim, leather, nylon or velvet. You can chose from several cute and colored hats, gloves and mittens, scarves, socks and tights and other warm-keeping accessories. The statement piece is the peep-toe wedge, which goes with pretty much anything – wear it with socks this season and you will still like it in spring!
